Getting to Know You: Rachel Ferrara

This year we’re so thrilled to welcome Rachel Ferrara to LIHSA as a Clerk Typist. Here’s a little background on the friendly face you’ll see in our LIHSA Main Office.

Rachel grew up in Levittown and attended SUNY New Paltz, majoring in Women’s Gender History and Sexuality. She loved spending five years in the town, living in the foothills of New York’s mountains.

LIHSA is Rachel’s first full time office job out of college, but she’s no stranger to the arts. Her dad is an art teacher in East Meadow and introduced Rachel to photography & painting. Throughout middle school and high school she worked on the stage crew and as a sound technician for her schools’ productions. She continues to paint and is currently teaching herself watercolor.

Outside of school, Rachel is busy with a menagerie of pets: a dog, fish, a guinea pig and a bird. She loves to garden and had a successful growing season with vegetables, strawberries and flowers. And she especially loves being in nature. She loved hiking and photographing in the mountains and lakes up in the Hudson Valley.

At LIHSA Rachel is impressed with how dedicated the faculty is to support the students and is excited to see students’ sense of enjoyment. She loves that this school exists and that there’s a place to encourage students to follow their dreams.

Rachel’s goal for the year is to get to know faculty and staff better and have the chance to see what is happening in the school. She says, “It’s exciting to be around this energy and ultimately send students to do amazing things. I’m excited to be part of that process!”

We’re so glad you’re here, Rachel!
