BOCES Expo Albany 2026
On Tuesday, April 21, 2026, two LIHSA students – Molly Gorelick from Half Hallow Hills who studies Production Managerial Arts and Angelina Castro-Boutin from Westbury who studies Music – headed to Albany for the BOCES Expo at the Legislative Office Building. They were accompanied by Molly’s mom, Carrie Goerlick, and Shawn Lisa Torres, Liaison to Human Resources. This annual event brings together all 37 BOCES from across New York State to showcase innovative programs and connect directly with state leaders. Our students spoke with legislators to share more about LIHSA, advocate for BOCES programs, and share their passion for the arts.
Molly enjoyed her time in Albany, learning about programs at BOCES all over the state that were new to her. She was impressed with how students from around the state took what they learned in class to the expo to present it professionally.
“One of the legislators said she really likes the art students and thinks the art programs are amazing to see. She believes there can’t be a BOCES program without the arts because while other jobs may be consumed by AI, art will survive and provide emotion and human connection.” Molly shared.
Angelina also appreciated being at the event, reflecting that despite the diversity in types of BOCES programs that were represented at the expo, all the students are part of BOCES to get a headstart on their future careers. “We’re all connected,” she reflects.
Both Angelina and Molly appreciated sharing their LIHSA experience with others at the expo. Molly said, “One of the things I kept sharing is how LIHSA helped me build my portfolio for college.” Angelina enjoyed, “Speaking with different types of students and staff who are passionate about the arts. And also seeing how much people appreciated what LIHSA offers.”
Thank you Angelina & Molly for representing LIHSA so beautifully!
