Celebrating Excellence: Lauren Gilbert, Long Island Arts Alliance Dance Scholar Award Winner

We are thrilled to shine a spotlight on an extraordinary young talent, Lauren Gilbert, 12th-grade dancer from Kings Park High School, who recently received the prestigious Long Island Arts Alliance Scholar Artist Award in the discipline of dance. This accolade not only recognizes her outstanding dance artistry but also her commitment to academic excellence.

Being named a Scholar Artist has been a significant achievement for Lauren. “It’s so rewarding because I feel as if all the hard work I continuously put into my dancing is finally paying off,” she shared.

When asked about her time at LIHSA and how it helped prepare her to be a Scholar Artist, Lauren shared, “my experience has been nothing short of amazing!” Surrounded by fellow dancers, she’s had incredible opportunities to grow. A standout moment for her was participating in “Broadway Supports LIHSA,” where she performed alongside Broadway professionals. Additionally, her involvement in the “Dance Buddies” program allowed her to share her passion for dance with younger students at Rosemary Kennedy School, a highlight she cherishes.

Lauren attributes much of her success to the faculty at LIHSA. “All of my teachers are incredibly inspiring, especially the resident artists I work with throughout the year,” she explained. In addition to taking class with American Ballet Theatre and Paul Taylor faculty, Lauren credited Ms. Bagdziunas and Ms. L’Etoile’s training as motivation to reach for her own goals, as they create a nurturing environment for creativity and growth. “Attending LIHSA has helped me explore the versatility of dance as an art form and become a more well-rounded dancer overall.”

Looking ahead, Lauren has clear visions for her future. “In 10 years, I hope to still be dancing, but I also want to become a physical therapist specializing in dancers and athletes,” she stated. Lauren plans to attend a large university to major in Kinesiology and minor in dance, hoping to also join a college dance team.

As celebrates this incredible awards, Lauren expresses her gratitude for the opportunities that have shaped her. “I’m so grateful to be a Scholar Artist! Thank you for providing me with this opportunity!”

You’ll see Lauren on the stage this winter at LIHSA’s Winter Festival: Dance on Friday, January 17th!
