Getting to Know You Stacey Steinhart

In December, a new face joined LIHSA’s staff as a Teacher’s Aide: Stacey Steinhart. Here’s a little about her.

Stacey grew up in Plainview and was drawn to the arts throughout her life. In middle school and high school, she studied Tap and Jazz at Jan Martin Dance Studios. She received her associate degree from Parson’s School of Design and worked as a commercial and residential interior designer for a several years. She returned to school at LIU Post to earn her bachelor’s degree in communications with an emphasis on Journalism.

Upon graduation, Stacey was an editor for publishing companies that published art, design and architecture and photography books before getting married and moving to Southern California.  On the west coast, Stacey and her husband began raising two boys. Stacey found herself working in her first T.A. role for special education classes when her boys were in middle school.

After spending nearly two decades on the west coast, she and her family moved back to New York so they could help take care of aging family members. Stacey continued working in education – first for a school for autistic high school students and then a pre-school before starting at LIHSA last month. She loves her new job noting that LIHSA is a smaller school than her previous positions. “The kids here are so kind and friendly.  They have such unique gifts and skills.  I’m constantly amazed by their talents.”

With her background in dance, Stacey has loved seeing LIHSA’s dance performances including the student choreographed pieces. She’s also especially enjoyed working in the mornings with the Production Design students where she can apply some of her interior design skills.

Stacey’s hobbies include designing and creating one-of-a-kind jewelry and has recently been learning to crochet.  Be sure to say hello to Stacey and welcome her to our LIHSA Family!
