LIHSA at Arts Schools Network 2026
LIHSA’s Principal Lindsay Rogan, Teachers L’aura Bagdziunas and Chris Brick, Alum Shirlene Blake and Nassau BOCES Administrators Susan McNulty and Brian Simmons were in San Diego this week at the Art Schools Network conference to accept the Exemplary Schools Award.
The conference theme – Borderless Creativity – was explored through workshops, student and professional performances, panels and tours. Alum Shirlene Blake presented a workshop called The Stories We Carry: Exploring Identity and Expression Across Arts Classrooms.
LIHSA was thrilled to be recognized as an Exemplary School by the Arts Schools Network. Each year, the Arts Schools Network recognizes schools that exemplify the very best in arts education through our Exemplary Schools Designation. Developed in collaboration with the Accrediting Commission for Community and Precollegiate Arts Schools, this distinction celebrates schools that demonstrate excellence in teaching and learning, visionary leadership, meaningful community engagement, organizational sustainability, and a deep commitment to student success.
More than an award, the Exemplary Schools process is an opportunity for schools to reflect on their purpose, celebrate their accomplishments, and examine the impact they have on the students and communities they serve. Through a rigorous application and review process, each designated school has demonstrated a sustained commitment to innovation, inclusion, and continuous growth.
LIHSA was one of 6 schools nationwide to receive this distinction this year.
