Outstanding Senior: Anna McCormick

We are thrilled to shine our Outstanding Senior Spotlight on Anna McCormick.

Anna is a LIHSA second year dance major from Huntington. Coming to LIHSA was certainly the right choice for her.  She shares how much she adores the LIHSA community, “Everyone here is so talented and so nice and we have such a great connection. I really have met my best friends here. I just love everyone here!”

Among Anna’s favorite classes is the dance repertoire classes. “We get to work on pieces as a group and get to learn from guest choreographers which is really cool. And getting to make those connections with outside people is really nice.”

She credits LIHSA for helping her to grow as an artist. Anna shares, “LIHSA really taught me discipline and strategies to use during auditions and in the future as a professional.  It’s helpful to be in a setting where everybody wants to work and everybody wants to learn the same things I do.”

Music inspires creativity in Anna. “I really like to choreograph. When I hear a song I really like, choreography just comes right out.”

In addition to her classwork, Anna has participated in Dance Buddies and Broadway Supports LIHSA both years she’s attended. 

Anna is grateful to the LIHSA community. “Thank you for helping me grow as a person and an artist,” she says.”I’ve learned so much and I’m so grateful I had the opportunity to come here.” She says that each of her dance teachers are big influences on her as a dancer.

Next year, Anna plans to attend either college or conservatory for dance. She’s also starting to audition for professional roles and is excited to see how she can apply her LIHSA training in her future dance career. The audition skills she learned at LIHSA have already been put to good use when she auditioned for colleges. 

Describing LIHSA in one word, Anna says, “Inspiring!” and offers this advice to younger students, “Don’t take it for granted.  It goes by so fast. I love everything about this place”
