Outstanding Student: Alexa Mincone
When you meet Alexa Mincone, one thing is instantly clear: this is a dancer with a deep passion and a powerful drive. A proud student in the Dance program at LIHSA and a member of the East Meadow School District, Alexa is a force of movement, grace, and determination.
From her very first ballet/tap combo class at the age of three, Alexa knew dance wasn’t just a hobby. “When I heard about LIHSA,” she says, “I knew this school would be the perfect thing for me to take my dance training to the next level.” And she wasn’t wrong. With classes led by professionals from renowned companies like ABT, Juilliard, and Paul Taylor, Alexa has been learning new styles, refining her skills, and even discovering talents she never expected—like singing!
Her journey hasn’t been without its lessons. “One of the biggest things I’ve learned at LIHSA,” she shares, “is how to handle the hard parts of a dance career that people don’t always talk about—like rejection and comparison.” This emotional resilience, paired with her technical growth, has helped Alexa become not only a stronger dancer but a more confident artist.
Outside the classroom, Alexa is the captain of the East Meadow Varsity Rockettes, where she can be found choreographing routines for halftime performances. She has also danced iconic roles in The Nutcracker and Sleeping Beauty. She’s a two-time performer in Broadway Supports LIHSA and a featured dancer in LIHSA’s original performance of Big Shot. And, Alexa is the president of the National Honor Society for Dance Arts. Talk about impressive!
After graduation, Alexa plans to pursue a degree in dance and a master’s in dance education, with hopes of performing and teaching professionally. Alexa is attending Point Park University to begin her journey as a BFA Dance student. “In ten years, I hope to still be dancing and sharing my passion with the world.”
To future LIHSA students, Alexa has one message: “Take full advantage of every opportunity—every class, every guest artist, every challenge. It all shapes who you become.”
With her heart, talent, and ambition, there’s no doubt Alexa Mincone is dancing her way toward a brilliant future.
