Outstanding Student: Anthony Scelta

Senior Anthony Scelta from Bethpage learned about LIHSA through his mom – a Bethpage School District Board Member. She knew Nassau BOCES programs helped students find their career paths after graduation. Since Anthony was interested in studying in LIHSA’s TV and Film program, it was a perfect fit for his last two years of high school.

LIHSA, and especially his teacher Robyn Morgan, helped Anthony to find his voice within the TV and Film program. He shares, “I grew as an artist because I didn’t think I’d like editing or directing in the TV world. But, I found out it’s fun to edit my work so it looks the way I want it to look.” Anthony also feels that his time at LIHSA enhanced his experience at his home school, and he points to being invited to attend the senior awards night at Bethpage High School to receive a “Yet-To-Be-Known” award.

A project Anthony has especially loved was working on a film called Murder on the Dance Floor that made its debut at the Film and Media Arts Festival on May 27, 2026. Directed by Anthony, the film’s theme came from an idea Anthony had after seeing a flyer for the prom. He loved that the am and pm students each filmed their sections separately that will come together in editing for a departmental collaboration. Another favorite memory for Anthony was participating in SkillsUSA.

“Amazing,” is how Anthony characterizes his time at LIHSA. “Everyone is very friendly and helps everyone. The acting classes are in the films and the music students said we could ask them for anything too.”

Director James Gunn and the film Guardian of the Galaxy are inspirations to Anthony. He shares that he overcomes nerves and creative challenges by remembering he wants to get good shots.

After graduating, Anthony is Iona University-bound to study TV news and sports media. He’s hopeful he will be able to film the sports games. He looks forward to meeting new people and having new life experiences – like living on campus. Anthony feels prepared for his next steps by his time at LIHSA, knowing his training in camera work and editing will be an asset.

Anthony has this message for the LIHSA community, “Enjoy your time here. It’s super-fun. Just get to know people and it’s definitely one of the best experiences I’ve ever had at school.”

We loved having you at LIHSA, Anthony, and will miss you next year!
