Janice Lee: Our 2025 George Farber Outstanding Student Award Winner

On Friday, May 9, 2025, school district leaders from across Nassau County gathered an the annual George Farber Outstanding Student Awards to celebrate distinguished students from our school.  Among the 20+ honorees, LIHSA awarded Janice Lee (Syosset High School) this prestigious award.

Janice Lee, ia a truly exceptional artist in LIHSA’s Visual Arts program.  Janice’s passion for art is not only evident in her impressive body of work, but in the way she brings curiosity and creativity to every piece she creates, experimenting with new techniques and pushing the boundaries of her artistic vision. Whether she’s working on class assignments or refining her portfolio, Janice approaches every challenge with determination.

This drive has earned her numerous accolades, including a Gold Key in the prestigious Scholastic Art & Writing Awards and the title of 2025 Scholar-Artist through Long Island Arts Alliance.  Her achievements in competitive arenas like SkillsUSA and the LIU Post Advanced Vision-19 Exhibition are not only a testament to her technical skills and innovative spirit, but have earned her 1st place Gold Awards at the Regional and State competitions two years in a row.

But Janice’s strengths go beyond her artistic talent. She embodies honesty and compassion. She is the first to offer help to a student struggling with an assignment and her professional and kind personality make her an approachable student that others are drawn to.  As Visual Arts Representative on the Student Council and Secretary of the National Art Honor Society, Janice helps shape an engaged school environment. Through her work as Vice President of the AAPI Society, she fosters inclusion and cultural awareness with purpose.

Janice Lee is not only a remarkable artist—she is a role model. Next year she will begin her studies at The New School, Parsons School of Design and we can’t wait to see what she does on her next adventure!
