Alum in the Spotlight: Stephanie Streisand
We love seeing our LIHSA alumni shine and thrive in their careers! Let’s catch up with the multi-talented Stephanie Streisand.
Class of 2003 alum Stephanie Streisand grew up in Melville and studied musical theater at LIHSA for all four years of high school. After graduating, she was accepted into the prestigious Broadway Theater Project co-founded and run by Tony Award winning dancer, choreographer, and director Ann Reinking.
Stephanie went on to land roles in some Off-Broadway shows: Hidden Voices (Directed by Terrence Mann), Songs for a New World, Alice in Wonderland (Directed by fellow LIHSA Alum Steven Carl McCasland), and Newsadoozies. She also wrote a musical called The 2017 Tony Awardz: A Parody of Musical Proportions which ran at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater in New York before transferring to Comedy Central Stages in Los Angeles. She also was a writer on the CBS Diversity Showcase, which kept her in LA where she still currently resides.
Since moving to the west coast, Stephanie has been a writer, teacher, actor, and stand-up comedian. She’s written on 9 seasons of television for 5 television shows including The Mighty Ones and wrote a TBA movie for Universal. Stephanie is currently developing a TV show for Dark Horse Entertainment.
One of Stephanie’s recent acting roles was the main “couch potato” for the PlutoTV campaign.
Stephanie teaches at comedy theaters, colleges, and independently. She has two online workshops coming up this fall through the Pack Theater: The Structure of a Half Hour Pilot and How to Get Representation. She also teaches a multi-week class on how to pitch your TV or film project as well as another on pilot writing.
Stephanie feels that LIHSA helped to foster her work ethic in the arts and how to be a self starter in the business. She shares, “I have many fond memories about my time at LIHSA. It helped instill confidence in myself and my talents. I learned who I am, my range and how to collaborate with other talented artists.”
