Outstanding Senior Matthew Pagliarulo

A guitarist from Wantagh, Matthew Pagliarulo is a senior studying Music at LIHSA. He found LIHSA through a conversation with his guidance counselor in his home district. Matthew explains, “My guidance counselor knew I was studying music and audio production and asked me what I wanted to do. He mentioned LIHSA to me and I researched it and thought it was a perfect fit. It’s all thanks to my guidance counselor.”

Over the two years that Matthew attended LIHSA, he has been inspired by his Music Teacher Alex Vietheer and grown so much. He reflects, “I skyrocketed from where I was last year. Mr. V. helped me realize what I should work on and I put in the work; he’s made a big impact on my life. Thanks to the resources and classes at LIHSA – I’ve learned so much!”

Among Matthew’s favorite classes are both the Original Works Recorded as well as the Pop Ensemble class. He’s very excited to record the song he’s written.

When listening to music, Matthew’s favorite bands are Pantera, Alice in Chains and Limp Bizkit and his top genres include grunge, metal, hard rock, and some old school rap. The music he listens to makes him feel connected, that others understand his feelings. This feeling also inspires him to play music. Matthew shares, “I want to do this for someone else – to have someone see their feelings reflected in music.”

In a word, Matthew describes LIHSA as “amazing.” Among his favorite memories is the camaraderie he feels waiting backstage with his LIHSA bandmates ready to go on and perform.

Matthew has especially appreciated the performances he’s played outside of school. He has enjoyed songwriting and is motivated through the work he’s done to be the best musician he can.

For students entering LIHSA, Matthew offers this advice, “ Keep going…Follow your dreams, no matter what and with no plan to turn back. Just know what it takes and pursue your dreams with all your heart. Keep trying.”

After graduating in June, Matthew plans to pursue music, playing with his current band, playing in new bands, and playing as many shows as possible. His goal is to play less covers and more originals in the next few years and would love to play performances 300 days/year.
