In the Classroom: Live Model Work
LIHSA’s visual arts students benefit from drawing a live model throughout the school year.
Our model – Monica Sharma – is an Indian model, television and film actress who first gained her fame when she won Miss Grand India in 2014. Monica is also known for starring in shows like Dilli Wali Thakur Gurls and Naagin 2. Other notable roles include Monica playing goddess Ganga in the TV show Shrimad Bhagwat Mahapuran. She also appeared in Kasautii Zindagii Kay and Vikram Betaal Ki Rahasya Gatha.
At LIHSA, Monica comes in once every 2 – 3 weeks posing as a live model for our Visual Arts students. Students have been using studio charcoal as their medium to draw with. They have also used the kneeded eraser to take the medium off the page to emphasis the directional light source.
By having Monica here, students have gained the experience of drawing from life and being able to distinguish proportions of the human figure onto paper.
Student Juilana Messina from Wantagh High School shared, “Having Monica Sharma in class has helped me have a better understanding of figure drawing and the true shapes of the human body. Its been a great experience so far.”
Student Lochlan Draper from Locust Valley shared, “Having Monica as our live model has aided in providing significant development in my skills with figure drawing as well as measuring life in proper proportions. She offers unique poses that make drawings look complex and layered, as well as having a strong ability to stay still, making drawing her in one place incredibly easy.”
Mr. Kevin Edwards, the Visual Arts teacher has shared his gratitude of having the benefit of a live figure model who goes through different poses for the students to draw and familiarize themselves with different perspectives.
